The Brothers Yates is a group of guys dedicated to the basics; Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rock and Roll. They added Hip Hop to that list, and to their songwriting and recording efforts. The result is a mix of musical styles that have been crafted into a very tasty blend of original and contemporary music. Expertly written and recorded. If it’s funky, it’s the Brothers Yates.
Our music speaks for itself. It is a labor of love that took dedication and purpose. It also required a strong will and countless hours of work. But the end result was way beyond our expectations. There were many “magic” days during the recording and mixing process. We were able to capture some of the most awesome performances from ourselves and our band mates. Vocalist, harmonica player, songwriter and producer Lorenzo Yates is an award winning bluesman (Larry Yates and the Blues Monsters). His career has taken him from Rock-n-Roll to Country then Blues and now back to his R%B roots. His soaring harmonica licks and strong vocal performances give him a commanding onstage presence. “The best way to describe our music is that its rockin’ blues with a funky feel. Like Stevie Ray got together with Paul Butterfield and did a gig with James Brown. You could say Bluesy Funk and Roll.”
Bass player, vocalist, songwriter and producer Tony Yates (Da Bone) is a long time Bay Area favorite. The native Texan has played with some of the area’s best local bands, including San Jose’s popular “The Garage Band”. Tony’s exceptional breadth of experience in different styles of music makes him just as comfortable with a Jazz song as he is with Rock-n Roll, Funk or Blues. His gritty vocals and funky bass style, adds a layer of passion to everything he plays. “Da Bone’s” high energy stage presence reveals his deep love for his craft. “I like the music we’re doing because it’s so funky”.
Don Jaymes/ The Broke Superhero is a lyricist and producer of underground Hip Hop music. While many rappers sound the same or gravitate toward a radio hit style, Jaymes is constantly evolving to stay fresh and new. Jaymes was born into and around music. He started out as an artist who was always drawing pictures and doodling, loving the creative outlet it provided him. This led to writing poems that turned into raps. Soon he was writing beats to accompany the words. It came very naturally. After being with several Hip Hop crews, Jaymes joined forces with the Brothers Yates to produce a compelling and well produced album of original R&B.
